My brother and I are on opposing sides of the musical spectrum.
He is a professional musician, a jazz bassist, living with me while he gets set up in Berlin. I am an opera fan with cursory musical training and a vocation in novel writing.
Little Brother doesn't like opera. I don't like jazz.
To say that life is musically schizophrenic right now would be putting things nicely. :)

this a hard one. I feel for you. Jazz makes me want to shrivel up and die - but opera is surely only a matter of some gentle conversion tactics.......
How about you watch Porgy and Bess (Willard White version 1986), and West Side Story together? At least they are in English..... Then you tell him the story of La Boheme and ease him in gently.
Purcell's Dido and Aeneas is pretty jazzy - mostly........
And Vivaldi is seriously jazzy - but the operas may take him a bit longer to get into.......
Shame Bach didn't write an opera...........
@shapta-dakini: See, he's trained in everything. Went to music school, can hold a coherent and intelligent conversation on everything from Bach to Gershwin...he just doesn't like opera. It irritates him. :/
Yes, I see. Not a lot you can do when there's a bit missing somewhere.......'spose you just have to be kind to him.......
