Carmen: Part One

So, yesterday I watched the first two acts of Bizet's Carmen, before my brother came in and reclaimed his computer (mine doesn't play dvds, much to my chagrin). I live tweeted it, something I do probably too often. So here, for your reading and viewing pleasure, are the tweets for the first two acts, with clips from the Royal Opera House production that I was watching.

Don Jose: Jonas Kaufmann
Carmen: Anna Caterina Antonacci

*Given that he's sleeping on my floor and eating my food, I feel no qualms about using Little Bro's Mac to watch 'Carmen'. THAT Carmen.

*Nothing like opening the opera with your favorite tenor being dragged off to the executioner.
*This kid's choir is having the time of its life.

*And Carmen makes her grand entrance, having left her shirt at home.

*I think probably half a ton of hair gel was sacrificed to make Kaufmann's curls lie down like that. Nice work.

"I'll sleep with you if you let me go." And he capitulates! Just like that! Typical man.

*I think it says a lot about their relationship that Carmen seduced Don Jose after tying him to a chair.

Let there be flamenco!

*And here's Ildebrando D'Arcangelo on a horse! I love it. Toreador, en garde! Toreador, Toreador!

*"You gotta come, you're our sexiest vamp! But Carmeeeeeeeeen! WE CAN'T SMUGGLE WITHOUT YOU!"
*"FINE, BRING YOUR BOYFRIEND! It's not like he'll go crazy and shank you if you mess with him anymore!"

*Kaufmann's bitchface is so awesome, he should give lessons.

Carmen, you bitch. I'm sorry, my sympathies lie solely with Don Jose here.

More to follow shortly. After I, you know, finish the dvd.
