Or, as my mom says it, the worst mistake you'll ever make is getting to be one hundred and realizing that you haven't lived a life.

Honey, does this mean you are about to do something you may regret? Don't do it....... just stick with the opera........You've got a long way to go to being 100 - time to make some wiser mistakes a bit later on........ Thanks for your review of the Met Siegfried - as another recently born-again Wagner nutcase I am doing a crash course in the stories...... Jay Hunter M is fun - there's an interview of him and Texan drawl with Renee Fleming which is hilarious - RF doesn't seem quite real.........
@shapta-dakini: No, not at all! It's more of a reminder to myself that sometimes things that look weird are actually working very well. Like my experience here in Berlin. :) You know, more and more recently I think that Renee Fleming comes off as a robot. I don't know why, but she does. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
Renee is very lovely, and a fabulous singer. But some sort of Barbie-doll syndrome seems to have kicked in...... she used to look so natural. It's as if she has fallen into a marketing machine and couldn't get out.....
The very best person to have looked, and been, natural, right until she died too young in 2007, was Lorraine Hunt Lieberson. A heart-wrenching mezzo (began as a soprano), and a shining spiritual being. I didn't see her, because she had to cancel her Wigmore Hall recital through illness. It was tragic. She has left great recordings. And some great Spanish (Neruda) songs composed by her husband.
