My monster baby

Here we have the six and a halfth draft of my Fidelio project. It currently stands at 38 chapters, 261 pages and about 96,000 words. It is my darling monster baby, and I'm beginning to think it will never find either an agent or a publisher. However, if there is one thing of which I possess in spades, it's stubbornness. So hopefully it will see bookshelves one day.

And at the end of the day, I just keep telling myself that people like this story, and will want a fleshing out of the opera, and of the characters. Trying to have faith in this work, because if I don't, then I can only believe that I've wasted two years of my life and enormous energy on this project, and frankly, I refuse to believe that.

I feel sure the experience is not wasted - I really admire the fact that you sustained the motivation and pushed the project through to completion. Do you not get any constructive feedback from the publishers/agents you send it to, about any possible adjustments to make it really marketable?

@villagediva: I've gotten a lot of feedback, but not from agents. They mainly send a uniform "interesting idea but not for me" letter. I once got back a very personalized letter from agent Barbara Braun, who told me that the opera was horrible and pointless so why would anyone want to read the book? I did not deign to respond.
