I've always been interested in the story of Sleeping Beauty, although even as a small child I thought the whole thing was improbable. Two completely different clauses there, huh? ;) Anyway, I was raised on Disney's Sleeping Beauty, largely because the music is all Tchaikovsky, and my parents never missed an opportunity to teach us about classical music. Of course, this left me with the tendency to burst into song every time I hear the Sleeping Beauty waltz (and to picture flying horses when I hear Beethoven's Sixth, but I digress), but the basic experiment worked.
When I saw this gorgeous sculpture of Sleeping Beauty at the Altes Nationalgalerie the other day, I just had to sneak a picture. I love sculpture, and I think this one really captures the Romanticism of the story well. And because I can't resist, I leave you with the Sleeping Beauty Waltz. :)
